Abu Dhabi – difference between major and minor service on an F10?

I bought a used 520i recently and the service history is a bit patchy. The dashboard is telling me a service is due but I can't tell if it needs a minor or major one. I've called a few garages in Abu Dhabi and got different answers about what actually gets changed. Some say major includes spark plugs and air filters, others say it's just an inspection. A friend who owns an older 3 series mentioned that I should look for Abu Dhabi Major Minor BMW Services that actually follow the BMW schedule instead of making up their own package. Has anyone here used a place that clearly explains what's included before you agree? I don't want to pay for a major if all I need is oil and a filter. Also curious if they use genuine parts or aftermarket and if they reset the CBS system properly. Just trying to keep this car running without getting ripped off. Any recommendations around Mussafah would be great.

Patchy service history on a used 520i makes reading the CBS system data more important than the dashboard message alone. A shop with ISTA access can tell you exactly which service items are actually due based on the car's logged history rather than just the mileage interval.

BMW minor service is oil and filter with a vehicle check while major adds spark plugs, air filter, microfilter, and brake fluid depending on the CBS readings. Any shop quoting a major without specifying which components are actually due is building a package rather than following the schedule.

CBS reset after any service is non negotiable on a modern BMW. A garage that does not reset the condition based service indicators properly is leaving the car confused about what was actually done, which matters especially on a car with patchy history you're trying to rebuild records for.

Quality aftermarket parts from reputable brands are perfectly acceptable on a 520i for routine maintenance items like filters. Genuine BMW parts are worth paying for on things like VANOS seals or cooling components but not necessary for air filters and spark plugs on a daily driver.

Getting a written breakdown of what is included before approving anything is the simplest way to avoid paying for a major when you only need a minor. Any shop confident in their pricing will hand that over without hesitation before you leave your car with them.
